‘Brown is one of those conductors who really lives the piece, conducts with his whole body. His gestures are immediately strong, immediately subtle.’

Ales Bluma, Klasika Plus

Conducting leading orchestras, curating imaginative collaborations across artforms, and working as a composer and improviser, Elias Brown is a quintessentially modern artist – a searching musician who is at home across a wide range of repertoire, disciplines and cultural contexts. He was recently named the 2026 winner of the Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award by the Solti Foundation U.S.

He has recently made debuts with Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSB), Danish Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Brown was mentored by Esa-Pekka Salonen, as a former Salonen Fellow, and has worked as his assistant with San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris and Ensemble Intercontemporain as well as, most recently, at Salzburg Easter Festival. He has also served as Assistant Conductor with Odense Symphony Orchestra and Korean National Symphony Orchestra, as Solti Opera Residency Fellow at Washington National Opera, and at the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi.

Recent highlights include conducting Ensemble Modern at Acht Brücken Festival and appearances with Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Flemish Symphony Orchestra, Nürnberger Symphoniker and Magdeburg Philharmonic. As a composer and improviser with a strong affinity for new music, he has collaborated with Ensemble MusikFabrik, Ensemble Zafraan, Spectra Ensemble and Divertimento Ensemble. In 2021, he won First Prize and the orchestra prize at the Korean Conducting Competition, leading to further engagements in Korea.

Brown’s interest in interdisciplinary performance informs his work as a curator. His Master’s research at the Royal Academy of Music explored concert curation and was later published in Glissando Magazine. Projects include Memory Systems / Memory Spaces (UdK Berlin, 2024), CAVE (Brunel Museum, Prague Quadrennial selection) and less than a grain of dust (Yale University Art Gallery). Brown studied at Yale University, the Royal Academy of Music and Universität der Künste Berlin, and was a Forum Dirigieren scholar. He has been supported by the Solti Foundation US with two Career Assistance Awards.
